Visiting the Berkshires? Did you know that Herman Melville wrote Moby-Dick while living at his country estate, Arrowhead, located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. (about 2 miles from our retail store)
He purchased the 160-acre farm in the Berkshires in the summer of 1850 and wrote the novel in his second-floor study over the course of about 18 months, often looking out at the nearby Mount Greylock.
Today, Arrowhead is a historic house museum operated by the Berkshire County Historical Society, where visitors can tour the very room where he wrote the whaling masterpiece.
